GTX 1080 to hit stores on May 27

Nvidia revealed plans on releasing its newest graphics cards, the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, in May and June respectively.

Both the cards are superb and have the capability to overtake the company’s top-of-the-line products in performance, efficiency and especially price. Let’s begin talking about the first card i.e. GTX 1080. The GTX 1080 will arrive on stores on May 27. It costs around $699.

As per the graph shown during Nvidia reveal event, the GTX 1080 is far more powerful and efficient than Nvidia’s current best-in-class graphics card Titan X, which costs you around $1,000. The second card named GTX 1070 promises you Titan X-level performance for just $449. It will become available on June 10.

The prices are for boards directly from Nvidia and some selected partners. Other manufacturers will offer custom boards starting at $599 and $349 respectively for the Nvidia GTX 1080 and Nvidia GTX 1070.

The GTX 1080 is faster than two GTX 980 cards running together.

During the reveal event, Nvidia’s live stream boasted all kinds of numbers for the new graphics tech. The new technology, based on the Pascal architecture, has been used only in high-end supercomputers.

The demonstration showed Epic Games’ new Paragon running at 60 frames per second. Its GPU clock ran at 2.1 GHz, and its memory clock at 5508MHz at 67 degrees Celsius. These results are astonishing as the card is neither air-cooled nor water-cooled.

According to Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang,

“It took billions of dollars in research and development to build Pascal, resulting in a consumer product that is very power efficient and offers unlimited performance.”

Huang promised that both the cards would be overclockable but denied sharing any further details. Given the company’s previous record and its claims during the reveal event, this time we can expect something really impressive in a reasonable price from the graphics cards maker.
